Primal to continue as a self-supported team in 2013, hopes to kick start a series of clinics to develop future cyclists.
While the Primal-MapMyRIDE p/b BH Bikes women’s cycling team officially disbanded at the end of the 2012 season, the riders are determined to continue on as a self-supported team in 2013.
Spearheaded by Nicky Wangsgard, who is acting as the director of the self-funded Primal team, the small 2013 roster includes Americans Kori Seehafer and Tiffany Pezzulo, Canadians Joanie Caron and Steph Roorda and German Melina Bernecker.
Some sponsors are staying on for the 2013 season but without the financial backing of major sponsors, the women are asking for community support.
In an effort to raise funding to help the team with travel, housing, mechanic, car rental, and administrative expenses, the women have started a crowd-funding project on www.gofundme.com.
Hoping to raise $10,000 (USD), the team plans to use the funding to kick start the creation of 10 race clinics held in conjunction with the USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar and USA Crits series.
Dedicated to developing future cyclists by promoting cycling at all levels, the team designed an eight-hour clinic for beginner, intermediate, and advanced cyclists interested in learning more about cycling and bike racing.
The clinics include in depth workshops on nutrition, training, balancing a career/family, and bike maintenance.
