Cervelo..er..um CSC has just won two classics in the past 8 days. Last week Fabian Cancellera took Paris Roubaix on his super tough 880 gram (!) Cervelo R3 and today Frank Schleck took Amstel on his aero Cervelo (aptly named) Soloist.
The Soloist has been a favorite of many CSC riders that prefer the TT-like teardrop shaped tubes that Cervelo uses. I'm always impressed when a rider can pull away with 20 km or so and time trial to the finish with the likes of a guys like Bettini, Wesemann, Kroon, Boogerd etc, chasing. Watching Schleck on his Soloist with Zipp 404 wheels made me think, he was just missing some clip-on bars and a funny helmet.
I'm not ruling out good team tactics and excellent fitness, but maybe there is something in the water of our neighbors to the north. This is the carbon version of the bike that Tyler took L-B-L on in '03.
If I'm an engineer for Ridley, Time, Pinarello, Trek (Trek has enough to worry about), or any of the bike suppliers of the Peloton, I'm putting on a pot of coffee and heading back to the drawing board...
