We used to have this argument annually over on my old private blog, and I think each year I change my mind... Anyway, CBB VW raised it in the 1985 thread, and I thought for clarity we'd move it into a separate space and have at it.
Was Bernard Hinault out of line in attacking the peloton (and his purported team leader Greg LeMond) in 1986, after pledging to help LeMond win the '86 Tour in exchange for LeMond sacrificing his chances in 1985 in service of Hinault? Or do you accept the justification that Hinault was working over LeMond's other rivals? Or that Hinault was trying to make a man out of LeMond?
