No our fearless leaders and intelligence officials didn't just discover Weapons of Mass Destruction in Flanders (Tom Boonen notwithstanding). US-based bicycle companies Cannondale and Specialized just took the first two rounds of the classics season. Yesterday was Pippo Pozzato aboard a carbon-front aluminum-rear triangle Cannondale System six, while Boonen took K-B-K on a carbon monocoque Specialized Tarmac. Neither companies are strangers to the winner's circle, having both provided steads for Cipo in his heyday, but semi-classic wins back to back(?).
The System Six is an intriguing machine with a aluminum rear triangle and a massive head tube. It just screams power. The Tarmac is no stranger to the pro peleton, however Boonen will take the company to new levels.
Both teams are running Campy Record drivetrains and Fulcrum wheelsets. It's nice to see American companies (not named Trek) have an impact beyond the MTB scene.
