Most Excellent BREAKING NEWS: Accordo! Accordo!

Thanks to Jens for combing the European media on the UCI-Grand Tours spat... which seems to have reached some sort of deal to restore sanity, for now anyway. Update [2007-3-5 20:23:19 by chris]: Full CN coverage is now up.

The Italian version, from La Gazzetta dello Sport:

BRUXELLES - A pochi giorni dall'inizio delle prove del calendario ciclistico Pro-Tour e' stato trovato l'accordo, ancorche' provvisorio, tra gli organizzatori delle corse principali e l'Unione ciclistica internazionale, al termine di una riunione fiume svoltasi oggi a Bruxelles. Le squadre Pro-Tour non saranno piu' 20, come ipotizzato in un primo momento dall'Uci, ma diventano 18. Rispetto all'elenco iniziale restano escluse la kazaka Astana (di Vinokourov e Savoldelli) e la francese Unibet.com. Le parti, inoltre, si sono impegnate a riunioni mensili per trovare un accordo definitivo entro il 21 settembre 2007. Il mese successivo, il 21 ottobre, scadra', infatti, questa convenzione provvisoria. (Agr)

If you have a translator function, please run this language and paste the English into comments. Well, unless we find an English description sooner. But it sounds vaguely like the UCI is dropping to 18 teams at some point, and Astana and Unibet are getting the axe. There also appears to be some holding pattern until September 21, though I can't tell what's supposed to happen then.
