VeloNews often seems like it's in disarray, which I think might actually be the case, but somewhere in there is the knowledge of how to cover cycling, when circumstances align. Sitting in for Professor Wilcockson (permanently?) is Neal Rogers, who just wrote the best Liege preview to be found in the English language. Race previews can get pretty generic, which is why I am finding them harder and harder to write... but Rogers went out and talked to a bunch of the protagonists sitting around Liege and got some actual, useful information. Live journalists are a rare thing these days... Go read for yourselves.
