Last time I called something a "transitional stage" Danilo DiLuca almost lost the maglia rosa, so I'll be respectful of Tuesday's ride into Lienz, Austria. The race opens with a long drag up the Passo di Campolongo, and has a few sharp ascents in the latter stages, but one would not expect any nonsense among the contenders. Perhaps Mazzoleni will see this odd stage as a chance for him to try something, given his disadvantages on the steep climbs like what's up Wednesday. More likely, though, this really should be one for the stage hunters.
