Quoting the mayor of Venice, CN reports that the long-rumored opening team time trial in Venice has been confirmed. The course will consist of 21km of beach-front roads in the narrow strip of land separating the city (somtimes) from the Adriatic. Flat, fast, non-technical... not much to discuss besides the fact that the Giro doesn't come to Venice very often. Something about the streets not being very bike-friendly. Unfortunately the MOSE, an electromechanical rising pontoon barrier being constructed to seal the lagoon from extreme tides, won't be ready in time for the race. Perhaps in the future they can replicate the 1999 Tour stage across the Passage du Gois, where you have to get across before the waters rise... or face the consequences.
