Tour de France Stage 16: Post-Stage Thread

Tour-post-stage-sm_medium Lots of sturm, not much drang. Team Saxo Bank fought a furious battle for some desperately-needed time but after forcing a decisive looking split for a while, the contenders all wound up back together at the top of the final climb, the Col du Petit Saint Bernard. Up the road Franco Pellizotti fought gamely against Pierrick Fedrigo and several Bweeg teammates, grabbing maximum points for his King of the Mountains campaign. He paced a four-man group down to the line for the stage, followed by four more with the maillot jaune group a minute back. Mikel Astarloza attacked cannily out of the group at 2km for the win, his first road victory! Results:

  1. Mikel Astarloza, Euskaltel
  2. Sandy Casar, FdJ
  3. Pierrick Fedrigo, Bbox Bweeg
  4. Nicholas Roche, AG2R
  5. Jurgen Vanden Broucke, Silence-Lotto

Still waiting on Kenny. As for the GC, old friend Cadel Evans fared poorly today, but everyone else rolled in together.

  1. Alberto Contador, Astana
  2. Lance Armstrong, Astana, at 1.37
  3. Brad Wiggins, Garmin, at 1.46
