Here in the US we celebrate the arrival of Christopher Columbus from Europe to basically make over the entire western world. Well, OK, only the federal government really celebrates it, out of habit. Also, the Italian American community has taken up the cause a bit more in recent years, possibly fearing the loss of a paid holiday. But a holiday it is, and frankly there's no harm in saying thanks to the guy who brought the tomato back to Italia. I'm off to the Cascade foothills to hunt for chanterelles with my Italian chef buddy and some cured meats and cheeses. So I'll leave you with a plug from yesterday's show: Hear our discussion of the Worlds, Contador, and a talk with the World's Fastest Man, Hour Record holder Sam Whittingham. Enjoy!
