Meanwhile at Le Tour Méditerranéen

The Tour Méditerranéen raced for the second day today, after Yauheni Hutarovich of Français des Jeux won the opening sprint stage yesterday. Jussi Veikkanen gave Français des Jeux their second straight victory after beating two young riders from BigMat Auber, Fabien Bacquet and Yohan Mombaerts. Veikkanen also took over the leader's jersey from his team-mate Hutarovich.

Frigid weather slowed the stage today, and the finish came over an hour behind the scheduled arrival. Running 170 kilometers from Pynier to Trets, the stage crossed rolling terrain and included three short categorized climbs. Dan Martin of Garmin-Transitions animated the stage with a long solo break and nearly held on for the stage victory. Veikkanen, Bacquet, and Mombaerts only overtook Martin in the final kilometer. Heartbreaker. The Tour Med. runs until Sunday and concludes with the traditional stage finish on the summit of Mont Faron.
