Taylor Phinney's (Trek-Livestrong) reign in yellow was a short one. Self confessed as altitude challenged, Phinney handed his yellow jersey off to teammate Alex Dowsett. Dowsett finished second on the day behind breakaway companion David Tanner (Fly V Australia) Dowsett is the reigning UK U-23 champion in the chrono. The pair held a slim 26 second lead over a charging pack containing the likes of George Hincapie, Brent Bookwalter (BMC) and Rory Sutherland (UHC p/b Maxxis). Tanner is the current Sprint leader, while Dowsett holds the remaining jerseys. Jeff Louder (BMC), the 2008 winner of the Tour Of Utah is the current holder Best Utah Rider jersey. Other Notables in the GC are Podium Cafe favorites Brent Bookwalter (BMC) in third 41 seconds back, and Phil Zajicek (Fly V) in a solid 15th spot 53 seconds down.
Stage two will cover 78 miles headed south out of the Salt Lake Valley, to a meeting with a 20 mile long 4500 foot climb up the southwest side of Mt Nebo. Stage 2 will also mark the return of your Podium Cafe photographer to the caravan after the organizers were able sort out our media request.
