Some neo-pros take their time about finding their professional legs. Others come flying out the gates. The young German John Degenkolb took his first professional victory today at the Volta ao Algarve. The HTC-Highroad sprinter won ahead of Tyler Farrar of Garmin-Cervélo and Michael "Bling" Matthews of Rabobank. Sporza had a nice shot of the finish. I'm not quite sure what Bling is thinking right there. Captions? Anyone? Questions about Degenkolb's sprint led the officials to review the video (which I have not seen! Not fair!), but they did not alter the stage results. Lotto dude Philippe Gilbert still leads the overall after he punked the sprinters and won yesterday's stage.
In Oman, meanwhile, Theo Bos of Rabobank took out his second win, while Matty Goss leads the overall. Alas, Benna, still owning second. Benna's Leppard team-mate Fabian Cancellara, en fuego on the Twit this morning:
Fast benna get 2again....This victory must come... We belive in it...Great teamwork from all. big @joostposthuma pullt almost the hole day.
This led to an impromptu English lesson:
