Things are hotting up. With the first World Cup just one week away the big name riders are starting to get geared up. Today many of the biggest names warmed up for the Trofeo Alfredo Binda by taking part in the Trofeo Etrusca. A select group of the bigs got away, among them Noemi Cantele, Nicole Cooke and Emma Pooley. Pooley tried a solo attack but was brought back and in the end Shelley Olds of Diadora-Pasta Zara won the sprint from Grace Verbeke and Martine Bras.
In France the Coupe de France got underway with the Cholet Pays de Loire and once again it was Emma Johansson who soloed away for the win. Christel Ferrier-Bruneau of Gauss came in second 51 seconds behind and another 56 seconds later Emma J's Hitec teammate Sara Mustonen won a small group-sprint for third.
See how the WVDS standings developed after the flip. Full WVDS results after the weekend are here.

Platypus6inUSA hangs on to the top spot in spite of a strong charge by Pigeons who is now in second place. The weeks strongest challenger is Dansel though who makes a jump into third place courtesy of his Emma J, Shelley Olds, Verbeke combo. Two winners and a second place there. Meanwhile Sui Juris, like a dying mackerel, is sinking slowly towards the bottom as ant1 and janvandervelde, two DSs that may very well have picked their teams solely on hotitude, both charge into the top 10.
Next week the big points come on the board as the World Cup starts off in Italy. Points bonanza for all teams except the Vos-vehicles. Vos sits out Alfredo Binda, unwisely prioritizing the non-WVDS track worlds on homesoil in Apeldoorn instead.
