Gent-Wevelgem Post-Race: Boonen Delivers

A crash with 20km to go took out HTC's Mark Cavendish and enlivened a split in the mass peloton that seemed destined to make it to the finish, and Tom Boonen won the mid-sized bunch sprint of some 30-odd riders. There were the requisite number of attacks and calamities, and Thomas Voeckler was the long-range star of the day, staying out front over the Kemmelberg and even taking some pulls after he was caught and another group containing Bodnar, Stannard, Sagan and Chavanel got up the road. Stannard made a bid with 3km to go and was only overtaken in the actual final sprint, but Boonen was well set-up with three teammates, and finished it off.

  1. Tom Boonen, Quick Step
  2. Daniele Bennati, Leopard Trek
  3. Tyler Farrar, Garmin-Cervelo
  4. Andre Greipel, Omega Pharma
  5. Lloyd Mondory, AG2R
  6. Mitchell Docker, Skil-Shimno
  7. Bernhard Eisel, HTC
  8. Kristof Goddaert, AG2R
  9. Lars Boom, Rabobank
  10. Baden Cooke, Saxo Sungard
