This was one of the more surprising seedings and a VERY intriguing first round matchup.
Johan Museeuw
Cobbles Credentials: A true Lion of Flanders resume, with three wins each in Paris-Roubaix and Flanders. A total of 14 podiums between the two races. He also won E3 twice and the Omloop once, as well as several KBKs, Dwars, etc.
DId you know? Museeuw came up in a suspect era and has confessed to doping, which I suppose is better than not confessing (after you've been suspended).
Walter Godefroot
Cobbles Credentials: Won Flanders twice, Paris-Roubaix once, plus a Gent-Wevelgem and Scheldeprijs. In 1968 his third place in Paris-Roubaix was two places short of achieving the elusive Flanders-GW-Roubaix triple, though in fairness he was 1.37 behind the winning duo of Merckx and Van Springel. Six podiums between the two monuments.
DId you know? At least one place on the internet names Godefroot as the man who discovered the Koppenberg, or at least the one who passed along the tip about maybe including it in the Tour of Flanders to the race organizers. That's a lot cooler than being known as Jan Ullrich's manager.
