As feared, snow has caused the Giro d'Italia to remove the two major mountain climbs prior to the finish at Val Montello from what would have been an epic Stage 19 of the Giro. Stage 20 is also at risk of shortening and flattening, with the Giro saying they hope they can keep the finale to Tre Cime di Lavaredo but contemplating removing the earlier climbs -- the Passo di San Pellegrino, Passo Costalunga and Passo Giau.
Friday will apparently consist of a 160km stage that goes over the Passo Castrin and ends up at the original finish line, which entails a 22km climb averaging 6.4% and with ramps up to 14% toward the top. Saturday... who knows.
UPDATE: As of this morning even the Plan B passes were snowed in so with the safety of the riders in mind organizers RCS made the hard but probably inevitable call to cancel the day's stage completely. Fingers now crossed that there will at least be some kind of racing on Saturday.
