Sassano - Montecassino 247 257 km
Long long slog to an uphill finish at historical Montecassino. The stage has actually been lengthened to 257 due to roadworks on the original route.
The importer introduces it this way "Volcanic soils make for interesting wines, and many of Campania's famous terroirs are of volcanic origin. Mount Vesuvius is an active volcano just east of Naples, and the organically farmed vineyards of Villa Dora are on the lower slopes of the volcano, inside the national park that surrounds it" The picture of the soil here is very cool. How could i resist?
Il Big del Giorno: Nicholas Roche
Feels like he will have another, and perhaps better, go at this. Unless the the climb is ridden too passively the big favorite has to be Ulissi again though. Will be interesting to see how Matthews defends again today too.
