Barbaresco - Barolo 41.9 km Timetrial
Moment of truth for many of the GC candidates. There isn't a whole lot of timetrialing pedigree among them in this race, most of them seem to talk of "limiting losses" and pointing out that it probably won't matter much anyway with the quantity of climbing coming later. But fact remains that this is 42 kilometers of very challenging terrain and lots of time can be won and lost here, especially with a long 249 km stage yesterday that turned into a stressing hammerfest for much of the day. By tonight we should have a much clearer picture of who actually stands a chance of being on the podium in Trieste.
Racing aside, today should be all about the wine as the course passes some of the most famous wineyards in Italy so without further ado here's.......
Amy's wine tip for the day: Bartolo Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba
I debated drinking a Barolo or Barbaresco. But budget and the lack of aged bottles in my cellar, plus an excellent suggestion from the folks at a local wine shop, sent me to this wine. So, a doclcetto d'Alba from a great Barolo house. Deep purple in the glass, with plums and cherries with a hint of violets and herbs. This one was good enough that I may need to buy a bottle or two more to see how it ages.
