Bouhanni wins La Vuelta Stage 2

Nacer Bouhanni confirmed that he is one of the new dominants in the sprints, winning the stage to San Fernando ahead of John Degenkolb and Roberto Ferrari. Alejandro Valverde takes over the leader's jersey from his teammate Castroviejo.

It was a predictable first roadstage in the Vuelta. The organizers wanted a big sprint and they got it. Bouhanni looks like the fastest man in this field and he won. In a fairly straightforward sprint Team FDJ did well to get Bouhanni to the front on the small rise at about 1000m to to and he had a teammate in front of him in the fast slight downhill final few hundred meters. Once he launched his final assault at about 200 m to go he was virtually unopposed and could even afford to sit up and celebrate on the line.
