Energiewacht Tour Prologue LIVE

It is time for the rarest of the rare, a women's stagerace streamed on the internet (and on TV in the NL). The Energiewacht Tour has everything we've come to expect of Dutch women's races, a pan-flat course, cross-winds and intense sprints.

Winsum 2,5 km TT

Tonight is going to start off with a simple 2,5 km Prologue. Weather is nice so there should be no worries but most of it is on typically dutch clincker-paved roads that could become treacherous.

The startlist for the race is topped by seven of the eight highest ranked UCI teams and they are stacked with top riders for this terrain. Only Bigla are lacking after a bit of a kerfuffle over start-costs unfortunately. Rabo are starring last years winner Lucinda Brand and she will have to fend off the other top sprinters like Jolien D'Hoore, Kirsten Wild and Lizzie Armitstead among many others.

Tonights contenders are likely the World TT champ Lisa Brennauer, showing off her rainbow stripes for the first time for her Velocio-Sram team, and Boels-Dolmans TT beast Ellen van Dijk who does as well on short as long TTs. Prologues are tricky though so we can easily see a bunch of possible winners tonight.

In the coming days we'll see a few chances of crosswinds and finishing laps in town, a Team timetrial on stage 2a and a final spectacular stage out on the island of Borkum just off the coast. That last one promises to be fantastic.
