Since the ttt offered two hours' worth of team arrivals in Sanremo, I decided to try a few different vantage points for my photos. First, I went to the last bend in the course, about 500 meters from the finish. I thought I'd just find a good spot on the barriers, but then I saw a couple of photogs inside the barriers, sitting on the ground on the outside of the curve, so I joined them there. That was a really good spot for pictures, but being on the course, inside the barriers made me too nervous. I'll probably get used to it eventually, but this time, I only lasted there through the first few teams.
Next, I tried the area just past the finish line, but it was pretty crowded there, so I only got a couple of shots of the Sky and Etixx riders just after they crossed the line.
After that, I moved a bit further back, for an unobstructed view of the riders just a few seconds after they crossed the line.
After Orica turned in the winning performance, Michael Matthews patted Pieter Weening on the back, while Simon Clarke gasped for air.
It was a prosecco free-for-all on the podium.
