Nothing better than the Eve of the Ronde van Vlaanderen and as I'm writing I'm in actual Flanders, Gent to be precise. As with all bike races, being on scene also means I know about half as much as everyone else what is actually going on. But on the other hand the beer is excellent.
What I can tell you is that Gent may not be buzzing with Ronde-fever, you probably need to go to Oudenaarde to find that. The town has been invaded by wielertouristen today, riding the cyclosportive in some pretty terrific spring weather. Weather tomorrow is predicted to be even warmer setting up a fast, easy and perhaps primed for surprises race?
The locals are excited for Greg Van Avermaet, fear Fabian and pray for Tommeke. And Sagan? No one is laughing at Sagan anymore. It should be a fantastic clash and we are ready to go!
