After a boring day on the Dauphiné, the two doomed breakaway riders, Fredrik Backaert and Mitch Docker, were comfortably caught, clearing the way for a sprint. GC favourites Contador and Froome interfered at the front of the race for a while, and Bouhanni and his team got into a bit of a scuffle with Kristoff, after which the Frenchman went on to win the stage, coming around the early-launching Sam Bennett in the last couple of metres. The Irishman would eventually finish in third, as Lotto's Jens Debusschere also overtook him at the last. There were no changes to the GC.
