It’s the time of year, Dauphine and Suisse are done and teams are deciding their lineups for July and then presenting them in ways that range from dull and factual (“here’s our list”) to insanely complicated (“here are tweets of fan videos each presenting one rider in our lineup over the course of 8 days”) . Some are already out and some are more or less credibly leaked. Some are presented with one or two spots held open until after national championships. Thought we’d make a place to present and discuss the quality of the presented lineups here.
I’ll start with the one that just popped up on my screen, Deceuninck-Quick Step:
Julian Alaphilippe
Elia Viviani
Enric Mas
Michael Mørkøv
Yves Lampaert
Dries Devenyns
Maxi Richese
Kasper Asgreen
A sprinter, a GC guy and Ala who can win everything. Strong support for Viviani while Mas will have to fend for himself mostly with only Devenyns as dedicated helper (remember, this is still QS no matter how much ursula thinks Mas is a winner). Ala presumably free to go after dots or whatever else he fancies and this all leaves Gilbert at home crying in his beer in a year the Tour starts in Belgium. Asgreen gets a well earned TdF debut, for now as a key helper for the sprints and the TTT. All in all a team that you can credibly predict to win on pretty much any one of the 21 stages .
