The current edition of the Giro d'Italia is taking form to become the most grueling version of the race in recent recollection
The current edition of the Giro d'Italia is on track to be the most grueling iteration of the race in recent history. As the race enters its final week, the number of remaining riders has dwindled to 126, a significant decrease from the 176 who embarked on the Grande Partenza in Abruzzo on May 6. COVID-19 has had a severe impact on the Giro. So far, 16 riders have been forced to withdraw after contracting the virus, which reemerged within the peloton in the weeks leading up to the race.
