Cycling transfers 2024 part 2 - Rodriguez & Roglic rumours

Early moves are in the books, attention now turns to some big Grand Tour contenders and their future plans.

Rumours suggest multiple GT champion Primoz Roglic is looking for the exit from Jumbo Visma - his chances of a proper shot at a TDF victory are understandably dimished there with the presence of reigning champ Jonas Vingegaard. Reports say his camp may be trying to engineer an early exit from his contract, with Lidl-Trek the supposed destination. For what it's worth all the speculation has been dismissed by Jumbo management.

Carlos Rodriguez, long rumoured to be joining Movistar, may be staying with the Ineos Grenadiers after all. Their attentions seem to have switched back to the young Spaniard after failing to lure Remco Evenepoel from Soudal-Quickstep. An odd transfer season so far for Ineos as they've seen multiple GC riders leave, young and old, without any replacements.

Australian sprinter Sam Welsford, fresh off a maiden world tour victory at the Eneco Binckbank Renewi Tour, will be leaving DSM for a 2 year contract at Bora. Seems like a good move with a proven sprint setup in place, though he may find it hard to secure Grand Tour selections at the increasingly GC focused team. This is the latest stop on the sprinter merry-go-round, with Fabio Jakobsen moving to DSM and current Bora sprinter leaving with AG2R the rumoured destination.

With the demise of the top level EF Education womens squad, multi-discipline rider Zoe Backstedt will be joining Canyon from this October - riding cyclocross this winter and then back on the road with them next year onwards (with her dad Magnus already there as a DS).

As ever, add news of any more moves in the comments.
